Surveillance conducted by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources over the last 9 years continues to provide no evidence of Chronic Wasting Disease in South Carolina. Like fish and game agencies in most states, DNR has been diligent in conducting surveillance for the disease in recent years.

South Carolina Upstate Mobility Impaired Deer Hunts Set For This Fall

Mobility impaired hunters will again be treated to a unique opportunity to attend two special deer hunts this year on about 50 well-managed and exclusive, private tracts of land in the Upstate. The deadline to apply for these hunts is Sept. 19.

South Carolina Deer Harvest Down in 2010

Results of the 2010 Deer Hunter Survey conducted by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources indicate that the statewide harvest of deer last season totaled 222,649, a decrease of 4 percent from the previous year. An estimated 116,755 bucks and 105,894 does made up this total, according to Charles Ruth, Deer and Wild Turkey Program coordinator for the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

South Carolina Turkey Season Opens April 1st - Tags Still Available

Although many spring turkey hunters have recently received their turkey tags by mail, those who have not should order tags now so they will receive them before the season opens. Hunters can determine if they should have received their tags by mail by checking their hunting license. If "Turkey Tags" appears on their hunting license the tags should have already been mailed to them. If "Turkey Tags" does not appear on the license then they will need to order the tags.

South Carolina Recommending a New Comprehensive Approach for Deer Management

The S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is recommending a new comprehensive approach to managing the state's important white-tailed deer population. South Carolina deer hunters have been requesting changes for some time. Since 2003, DNR has conducted public meetings and surveys to determine hunters' attitudes related to future deer management in the state and the results indicate broad support for change.
