Upstate Special Deer Hunts Program is Successful
A cooperative venture among various Upstate private landowners, hunting clubs, sportsmen's preserves, industrial timber companies and the S.C. Department of Natural Resources is allowing many of today's young hunters and mobility impaired sportsmen unique opportunities to experience the challenges, enjoyment and thrills associated with hunting white-tailed deer.

South Carolina's biggest deer on record are now listed on the Internet for nature enthusiasts and sportsmen and women to read. The site on the S.C. A one-day deer hunt with dogs is scheduled Thursday, Dec. 19 in Hellhole Wildlife Management Area in Berkeley County within the Francis Marion National Forest. Youth Deer Hunts
A series of 17 youth deer hunts conducted jointly in 2001 by Santee Cooper and the S.C. Department of Natural Resources were so successful that plans are already being made to hold the hunts again this year. These youth deer hunts will be held again during the 2002 deer season. Recent budget cuts within the Department of Natural Resources have resulted in a reduction of staff, which may impact the total number of days available for youth hunts this year. Applications will be available after Aug. 15. If you would like to be placed on a mailing list for an application, call the Dennis Wildlife Center in Bonneau near Moncks Corner at (843) 761-8820 or (843) 825-3388.
