Santee Coastal Youth Turkey Hunts Application Deadline
Deadlines are soon approaching for youth turkey hunts at the historic Santee Coastal Reserve in Charleston and Georgetown counties, sponsored by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources. The youth turkey hunts at Santee Coastal Reserve are set for April 8, 15, 22 and 29. All S.C.

Want to learn more about deer hunting? Plan to attend a seminar by Joe Kelly in the Moore Building during the upcoming Palmetto Sportsmen’s Classic. The 22nd Annual Palmetto Sportsmen’s Classic will be held at the State Fairgrounds in Columbia March 24-26. Doors will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, March 24; from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
State Youth Raccoon Hunting Championship held in Lowcountry
Thirty-nine young coon hunters braved a cool steady rain recently to participate in the 11th annual South Carolina Youth Raccoon Hunting Championship at the Webb Wildlife Center in Hampton County.

Youth Waterfowl Days are Set in State Feb. 4-5
Young waterfowl hunters across the state can enjoy special days in the field Saturday, Feb. 4 and Sunday, Feb. 5 by participating in Youth Waterfowl Days on private lands and on some S.C. Department of Natural Resources Waterfowl Management Areas.
North Island Hog Hunts
The S.C. Department of Natural Resources will continue efforts to remove and eliminate feral hogs from North Island in Georgetown County by scheduling three hog hunts with dogs.
Hypothermia Deaths Can Be Prevented
A leading killer of outdoor recreationists is hypothermia, and hunters headed to the field should be aware of the threat and how to combat it. Hypothermia occurs when exposure to the wind, cold and wetness drain heat from the body faster than it can be produced.
Two Special Youth Deer Hunts Set
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources in cooperation with MeadWestvaco will be conducting two special youth deer hunts at Walworth in Orangeburg County on October 22 and December 3.
Waterfowl Hunt Drawing Deadline
The application deadline is Monday, Oct. 24 for the S.C. Department of Natural Resources' annual drawing for public waterfowl hunts on 15 state-managed areas. A random computer drawing using a preference point system will take place in the department's Columbia office to select successful applicants.
