Tennessee's second segment of the deer season, which allows gun/muzzleloader/archery, opened on Saturday, December 20, in both Units A and B, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).

The season in Unit A (Middle and West Tennessee) will continue through January 11, 2004 and in Unit B (East Tennessee) through January 7, 2004.

Both Unit A and B have a bag limit of two antlered deer for both first and second segments combined. The total number of antlered deer taken may not exceed three per year for all statewide hunts combined.

Those hunters, who harvested two antlered deer in the same Unit during the first segment of gun/muzzleloader/archery season, may not hunt antlered deer in that Unit during the second segment.

Hunters, who have taken two antlered deer in the same Unit during the gun season, may go to the other Unit during gun season and take their third antlered deer (as long as it does not exceed his/her three antlered deer total for the year).

Remember that deer harvested must be immediately tagged with the properly punched temporary harvest tag and then taken to the nearest big game checking station, where a permanent kill tag will be completed and the temporary harvest tag will be replaced.
