A $20 raffle ticket won a hunt of a lifetime for Normand Berube of Scarborough, Maine, and raised almost $30,000 for bighorn sheep research and management efforts in New Mexico. Berube's winning ticket was one of 1,750 chances at a coveted New Mexico bighorn sheep hunt.

Berube will have his choice of hunting Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep in the Pecos Wilderness or Wheeler Peak areas anytime between Aug. 1 and Dec. 31, 2006. The coveted license is one of two offered each year by the Department of Game and Fish, in cooperation with the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep. The second bighorn license is sold at auction during the foundation's annual convention in January. Last January's auction license sold for a record $185,000.

Since 1990, the Foundation for North American Wild Sheep has helped the Department of Game and Fish raise more than $1.5 million for bighorn sheep research and management through the license auctions and raffles.
