The proposed opening dates for the fall 2003 big-game hunting seasons were made public today by the Ministry of Water, Land and Air Protection.

Most dates announced by the ministry apply to hunting male big-game animals. Season openings for antlerless animals, small game and limited-entry hunts are not included.

Hunting regulations for all species will be published in the 2003-04 Hunting and Trapping Regulations Synopsis available in July.

The development of regulations is a complex but critical step in ensuring that government’s wildlife conservation objectives are met. Decisions on allowable harvest levels are based on sound science. This process also ensures that B.C. continues to provide world-class hunting experiences.

The opening dates listed here are preliminary and may change as further information on the status of game populations is received.

Opening dates that differ from those published in the 2002-03 Hunting and Trapping Regulations Synopsis are listed below. If a species or a management unit is not specified, the opening date for that species may not have changed from last year. For more information, contact the ministry office located in the region of the hunt.
