Big Time Texas Hunts Winners Announced

When an unknown number shows up on the caller ID, Weatherford Downtown Café owner Britton Schweitzer just lets it go to voicemail.

Fewer Hunters Observed at Havre-Area Game Check Station, Montana

Mid-season figures compiled from the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Region 6 game check station outside Havre show a strong elk harvest this season but greatly reduced numbers of hunters and harvested deer and pronghorn antelope.

The first four weekends of the Havre check station have seen a decrease in hunters and in harvest,” said FWP Havre-area Wildlife Biologist Scott Hemmer. “Hunter numbers so far are down 31 percent from last year.”

Update On Montana's Hunting Seasons

Montana’s general big game hunting seasons are open through Sunday, Nov. 27. All hunting for black bear, moose, mountain goat, bighorn sheep and fall mountain lion also ends Nov. 27, while the general antelope hunting season will end Nov. 13.

Montana Check Station Stats Show Hunting Harvest Still Slow

Statistics gathered at Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks check stations over the weekend show that the big game harvest in south central Montana is well below the long-term average.

Though the overall number of hunters who stopped at check stations Saturday and Sunday, the second full weekend of the season, was nearly the same as last year, the percentage of hunters who bagged game was down.

Hysham, Montana Check Station Report

The Hysham check station was open Saturday, Sunday and Monday the opening weekend of antelope and pheasant seasons. According to station personnel Saturday was very slow; Sunday was steady and close to average for an opening weekend. Monday was steady to start with but dropped off dramatically by mid-late afternoon.
