Ohio's Fall Controlled Deer Hunt Apps Due July 31

Hunters wanting to participate in Ohio's fall controlled deer and waterfowl hunts have until July 31 to submit permit applications for a random drawing according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife. These special hunts are held on selected public areas to provide additional hunting opportunities.

New this year, all applicants, adults and youths, must possess a current hunting license in order to apply for a controlled hunt.

Ohio's Spring Turkey Season Has Ended

Hunters checked 18,485 wild turkeys during Ohio's four-week, statewide spring turkey hunting season that ended May 15, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife.

The preliminary total represents a 21 percent decrease over last year's harvest number of 23,421 -- the second-highest all-time.

Ohio Man to Pay Nearly $28,000 in Restitution for Poaching

A Huron County man was found guilty of the illegal harvest of a deer that was taken in November of 2010. Arlie Risner, 58, of Bellevue pled no contest and was found guilty in the Norwalk Municipal Court, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

Ohio Turkey Season in Full Swing

Ohio hunters harvested a preliminary total of 2,646 bearded wild turkeys on the first day of the spring turkey-hunting season, which is open statewide through May 15, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife.

Top counties for wild turkeys killed on Monday were: Guernsey – 94; Adams – 88; Tuscarawas – 85; Muskingum – 81; Coshocton and Knox – 79; Belmont – 73; Washington – 72; Brown – 71; and Ashtabula – 70.

Ohio Approves Hunting Regulations for 2011-12 Seasons

Hunting and trapping regulations for 2011-12 seasons were passed by the Ohio Wildlife Council at the April 6 meeting, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

Ohio Turkey Season Opens April 18th

Spring wild turkey hunting opens in all 88 Ohio counties on Monday, April 18, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife.  The season continues through Sunday, May 15.

"Hunters may see three-year-old gobblers this spring based on the strength of the 2008 hatch," said ODNR Wildlife Biologist Mike Reynolds. "Overall, turkey numbers should be good across the state, but the harvest will likely not top last year’s kill — the second highest all-time."

Ohio Man Guilty of Poaching, Will Pay $24,000 Fine

A Logan County man pled guilty to three wildlife violations stemming from the illegal taking of a trophy white-tailed deer in the Bellefontaine Municipal Court on Monday, January 3. As a result, he will be required to pay $23,816.59 in restitution, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

Ohio 2011-12 Hunting/Trapping Licenses Now on Sale

Ohio's 2011-12 fishing, hunting and trapping licenses and permits are on sale now, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife.

"Some agents have decided not to continue to sell licenses and others have decided to join as authorized license sales agents. Don't assume the place where you bought your license last year is still selling them." said Vicki Mountz, acting chief of the Division of Wildlife. Biologists Confirm Over 100 Bobcat Sightings in Ohio During 2010

Increased evidence of bobcats living in Ohio’s southeastern counties continues with the confirmation of 106 sightings by state wildlife officials during 2010, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife. The reports show an increase from the 92 verified sightings in 2009.

The bobcat is listed as an endangered species in Ohio and protected by state law.

Ohio's Muzzleloader Season Ends with Lower Harvest Rates

Hunters took 17,108 deer during Ohio's four-day muzzleloader season, January 8-11, with Tuscarawas County again leading the state with 914 deer checked. In 2010, a preliminary total of 24,078 deer was taken during muzzleloader season, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife.
