Fewer Black Bear Sightings Reported in 2011 in Ohio
According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife, 152 black bear sightings were reported in Ohio last year. Of that number, state wildlife personnel confirmed 60 sightings, which is a slight decrease compared to the 64 confirmed sightings in 2010. 
 
The 2011 confirmed sightings occurred in 19 different counties and involved an estimated 38 different black bears. Most of the reported bear sightings were in northeastern counties.

Final Numbers Are in for Ohio's 2011-12 White-tailed Deer Season

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife announced that 219,698 deer were taken during Ohio's 2011-12 hunting season, compared to 239,379 in the 2010-11 season. The top three counties with the highest number of deer taken this season were: Coshocton, Licking and Tuscarawas.

Hunters harvested an additional 16,766 deer during the extra weekend of gun hunting, December 17-18, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. 

Deer Hunters Helping Ohioans in Need

Venison donations will be accepted through February 5, 2012 

Ohio deer hunters have donated more than 79,750 pounds of venison to local food banks since opening day of deer season on September 24, according to Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry (FHFH) and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife.
 
Ohio Deer-gun Hunting Continues December 17-18
Ohio's popular deer-gun season will run an additional weekend, Saturday and Sunday, December 17-18, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife.
 
The extra weekend days were added in 2006 in response to requests from hunters for more weekend time to hunt. Hunters can use a legal muzzleloader, handgun or shotgun from one half-hour before sunrise until sunset on December 17-18.

Ohio White-tailed Deer Hunters Challenged by Weather

Coshocton County leads the state with 1,197 deer checked

Hunters took 23,600 white-tailed deer on a rain-soaked Monday, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. The deer-gun season remains open through Sunday, December 4 then reopens for two days on Saturday and Sunday, December 17-18.

Ohio Fall Turkey Season Concludes

Ohio's fall wild turkey season ended November 27 with hunters bagging 1,375 during the seven-week season. Ashtabula County led the state with 67 birds taken, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife. Last year’s harvest total was 1,425.

The 2011 fall turkey season ran from October 8 through November 27 allowing hunters to pursue a wild turkey of either sex using a shotgun, muzzleloading shotgun, bow or crossbow in 48 counties in the state.

Ohio's Young Hunters Get Results During Special Two-Day Deer Hunt
Young hunters across Ohio enjoyed success during the eighth annual Youth Deer-Gun Season, held Saturday and Sunday, November 19-20, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife. 
 
Hunters aged 17 and under, harvested 8,681 deer during the special two-day season, as compared to 8,445 last year.
