Ohio’s Controlled Deer and Waterfowl Hunts Coming Soon

Hunters wanting to participate in Ohio’s fall controlled deer and waterfowl hunts have until July 31 to submit permit applications for a random drawing. These special hunts are held on selected public areas to provide additional hunting opportunities for Ohio’s hunting enthusiasts.

All applicants, youth and adult, must possess a current hunting license and meet the age requirements in order to apply for a controlled hunt.

Ohio Hunters Harvest More Than 17,000 Turkeys During Spring Hunt

Hunters checked 17,647 wild turkeys during Ohio’s four-week statewide spring turkey hunting season that ended May 20, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. The preliminary total represents a three percent decrease over last year’s harvest number of 18,162.

Ashtabula County again led the state in the number of turkeys killed with 762. Counties with additional high harvest numbers were: Ashtabula-762, Tuscarawas-531, Guernsey-495, Coshocton-492, Muskingum-486, Belmont-456, Knox-451, Harrison-450, Trumbull-428 and Adams-420.

This year’s spring wild turkey season opens in all 88 Ohio counties on Monday, April 23 and continues through Sunday, May 20, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

Ohio Wildlife Council Approves 2012-13 Hunting and Trapping Regulations

Deer hunters have until noon the following day to check in their deer.

The Ohio Wildlife Council approved hunting and trapping regulations for the 2012-13 hunting seasons, during the April 4 meeting, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

Seven west-central Ohio counties will move from deer Zone A to Zone B; those counties are Auglaize, Darke, Mercer, Miami, Montgomery, Preble and Shelby. Madison County, currently in Zone B, will move to Zone A.

These inspections are offered in northwest Ohio by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR) Division of Watercraft and its boating partners.
 

Ohio's Archery in the Schools Tournament Draws 1,319 Students

The winner of the 2012 National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) state tournament was Logan High School in Hocking County according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ (ODNR) Division of Wildlife, which coordinates the NASP for Ohio.

The state tournament was held March 2 in Columbus in conjunction with the Arnold Sports Festival, the annual fitness tournament developed by former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
