Kentucky Afield Outdoors: Get Your Spinning Reel Back In Shape Quickly A group of old friends of mine gets together every spring for a fishing trip in March or April, usually to Kentucky Lake. After our first day of fishing on our recent trip, one of the friends asked for help with a balky spinning reel. The handle was "loosey-goosey," along with a floppy rotor that holds the reel bail assembly. He considered retiring this reel for a new one, but a few minutes of work made the reel sing like new. |

The free event is designed to introduce women to the world of shooting sports. Participants will discover a great way to enjoy the outdoors with family and friends while testing their skills with shotguns, handguns, rifles, and bow and arrow. This fun- filled and educational day is designed for participants of all skill levels. No prior experience is necessary. |

Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission Awards $5.8 Million for Trail Projects Trails projects across the state received a $5.8 million boost from the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission, which voted to approve 65 grants for motorized and non-motorized trail projects to be completed in 2012 and 2013 at its monthly meeting Thursday at the Pueblo Union Depot. |

Mississippi Kids Fish Identification Program The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Park's Visitor Education Center (VEC) adjacent to Enid Lake will host a Kid's Fish Identification Program on Saturday, April 14th at 2:00 p.m. Young anglers can learn how to identify the many different species of fish found in Enid Lake and other lakes and ponds across the state. Josh Howell will present this program. A Conservation Associate Fisheries Biologist from the MDWFP Fisheries Bureau, Howell works in the northwest area of Mississippi including the four reservoirs operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers. |

Give Feeders a Spring-cleaning to Keep Birds Healthy The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds bird-feeding enthusiasts that regularly cleaning and disinfecting the feeders are just as important as filling them - especially in efforts to prevent salmonellosis, a bacterial disease that kills many small birds. Salmonellosis occurs when a food source is contaminated with fecal matter. Since 1970, when this bacterial disease was first diagnosed in Michigan, die-offs around bird feeders have become more common and have been witnessed in many bird species throughout the world. |
