Northern Lower Peninsula Bobcat Trapping Season
Michigan Department of Natural Resources officials today announced the 2005 bobcat trapping season in Bobcat Management Units (BCMU) C and D in the northern Lower Peninsula will be Dec. 10 - 20, 2005.
Bobcat trapping in Units C and D will be limited to private lands only. There is a bag limit of one bobcat for the northern Lower Peninsula BCMUs, which translates to one bobcat in either Unit C or D, but not one in each. The Natural Resources Commission approved a technical amendment requiring bobcat trappers in Units C and D to use foothold traps only. Traps must be checked daily.
Prior to going afield, bobcat harvesters must obtain a free bobcat kill tag available from license vendors or DNR Operations Service Centers. Hunters and trappers must have the tag in possession prior to attempting to harvest a bobcat. The kill tag must be affixed to the animal in the field. The private-land only and foothold trap only restrictions are also printed on the free bobcat kill tag for Units C and D.
Harvested animals must be registered at a DNR office by the furharvester tagging the animal within 10 days of the close of the season in which it was taken. Further details on bobcat kill tags, BCMUs, and registration requirements can be found in the 2005 Hunting and Trapping Guide, or online at www.michigan.gov/dnr.
Registration office locations and hours also are located online. Trappers are strongly encouraged to telephone registration offices in advance to confirm hours and locations for bobcat registration.
