A new option to allow the purchase of a preference point is available for South Dakota’s 2003 elk, bighorn sheep and mountain goat hunting seasons.

"All seasons for these three big game species now have a provision to allow people who are eligible for a license in a certain hunting season, and who do not want to take a chance drawing a license for that year, to purchase a preference point," said Game Management Specialist Ron Fowler. "Applicants simply apply for the designated unit with zero licenses and pay the usual, nonrefundable application fee."

The Black Hills bighorn sheep and mountain goat seasons are both set for Oct. 11-26. Resident applicants can have a chance for one of the two bighorn sheep licenses and/or one of the three available mountain goat licenses. May 30 is the first application deadline for these seasons. Applications should be available in late April.

Shooting hours are one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.
