New Mexico Big Game Applications Due March 28th

Hunters planning on entering the drawing for 2011-2012 big-game licenses have until March 28 to apply with the Department of Game and Fish. The deadline is earlier this year to allow hunters to take advantage of discounts available when they buy combination hunting and fishing licenses.

Beginning April 1, New Mexico will require all cougar hunters to successfully complete the Department of Game and Fish online cougar identification class before hunting cougars.

New Mexico DGF Confirms 12 Carcasses Found Were Harvested Legally

The carcasses of 12 elk found recently near Horse Springs apparently were the remains of legally harvested animals, an investigation by the Department of Game and Fish determined.

New Mexico Elk Late Season Tags on Sale Nov 3rd

More than 500 late-season elk hunting licenses will be available Nov. 3 in a first-come, first-served sale on the Department of Game and Fish website.

Only hunters who were unsuccessful in the regular drawings or did not hold a 2010-2011 elk license are eligible to purchase the late-season licenses, which will be available only on the Department website. Hunters of all ages can purchase licenses beginning at 10 a.m. Nov. 3.

New Mexico Hunter Education Registration Now Online

The Department of Game and Fish has made it easier than ever for youths to register for mandatory hunter education classes. Registration for classes statewide now can be made online using the student's unique customer identification number.

Anyone who wants to fire a muzzleloader, tie a fishing fly, shoot a bow or learn dozens of other outdoor skills is invited to a free weekend of family fun Aug. 21-22 at the New Mexico Outdoor Expo at the Albuquerque Shooting Range Park.

New Mexico Leftover Elk, Deer and Javelina Tags Available in August

Youth and adult hunters who missed a shot at a big-game hunting license during this year's annual drawing will have another chance this August when the Department of Game and Fish puts more than 5,000 deer, elk and javelina licenses up for sale on the agency Web site.

New Mexico Game Commission to Discuss Elk & Bighorn Rules

The State Game Commission will consider establishing rules for the 2011-2014 hunting seasons for elk, bighorn sheep, exotic species and waterfowl seasons at its meeting July 8 in Silver City.
