Youth Rabbit Hunt on February 22
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and the Great Plains Houndsmen Club will sponsor a youth rabbit hunt on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Osage Wildlife Management Area near Tecumseh.
2003 Deer, Fall Turkey, Elk, Antelope Permit Application Periods Set
The permit application periods for Nebraska's 2003 deer, fall turkey, elk and antelope hunting seasons were recently set by the Game and Parks Commission.
Bordeaux and Hat Creek Elk Seasons Close
The 2002 elk hunting seasons in the Bordeaux and Hat Creek Elk management units in the northern Panhandle are over with 56 percent of elk hunters in the Hat Creek and 42 percent of hunters in the Bordeaux elk management unit harvesting elk, according to Gary Schlichtemeier, district wildlife manager at the Game and Parks Commission's district office in Alliance.
Archery, Muzzleloader, Regular Firearm Deer Permits Still Available
Nebraska's 2002 archery deer season is Sept. 15 - Nov. 15, and Nov. 25 - Dec. 31; and the muzzleloader season will be Dec. 1 - Dec. 31. There are an unlimited number of both archery and muzzleloader permits available, but hunters may have no more than two permits that allow the taking of antlered deer.
Box Elder Elk Hunt Successful
Six Nebraska elk hunters were successful in the Box Elder Management Unit Season that closed at sunset Sunday evening in southwest Nebraska.

Bighorn Sheep Lottery Winner Picked
Bradley Eriksen of Omaha became the lucky winner of the 2002 Nebraska bighorn sheep lottery hunting permit when his entry was pulled from a metal barrel containing 1,838 applications during the Game and Parks Commission meeting in Lincoln Aug. 23.
Four Hunter Education Classes Scheduled
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission has scheduled four hunter education classes in the Lincoln area during September and October.
Southwest Box Elder Elk Unit Approved
A new elk management unit was established in southwest Nebraska and the dates for a hunting season there were set by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission at a meeting in Lincoln July 24. The Box Elder Elk Management Unit include southeast Lincoln County and small parts of Dawson and Frontier counties, an area of about 250 square miles. The application period for Box Elder Elk Unit hunting permits will be Aug. 5 - 16.
