Some hunters may begin applying for big game permits starting on May 16, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.

The following people may begin applying at 1 p.m. Central Time on that date:

Deer hunters – Residents may apply for one permit in any draw unit. These include Republican Mule Deer and Republican Whitetail permits, as well as DeSoto December Muzzleloader permits.

Antelope hunters – Residents and eligible landowners may apply for one buck or either-sex permit in available units. These include all antelope firearm and muzzleloader permits.

Elk hunters – Residents and eligible landowners may apply for one permit. This includes all elk permits.

Draw units are determined by demand on a unit’s permits. They are established to provide equal opportunity to obtain permits in those units.

The drawing for permits will take place some time in June. Starting on July 11 at 1 p.m. Central Time, hunters may purchase any remaining deer, antelope or elk permits through the end of the seasons.

Unit maps and hunting regulations will be available to download at OutdoorNebraska.org. The 2011 Big Game Guide soon will be available online and in hard copy.
