Buck Deer Permits Reduced Slightly in Utah

For months now, deer hunters have wondered how many general buck deer permits will be available for Utah’s 30 new deer hunting units this fall. On May 3, the Utah Wildlife Board gave the answer: 86,500.

You can shoot bows and arrows and firearms for free at two public shooting ranges in May. If you don't have your own equipment, or you don't know much about shooting, no problem—free equipment and instruction will be provided each day.

Commission Sets 2012-13 Deer Hunting Seasons in Arkansas

The upcoming deer hunting seasons for the state have been set by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission. The seasons were approved at today’s meeting of the Commission.

Season dates for the 2012-13 deer hunting season:
Archery – All zones: Sept. 15-Feb. 28, 2013.

Iowa Late Muzzleloader Deer Season Preview

No sooner do Iowa’s shotgun season deer hunters hang up their gear, the late muzzleloader hunters head into the woods.

About 32,000 late season muzzleloader hunters don’t have to compete with the crowds of shotgun season, but they do face the prospect of colder weather and more snow during their December 19-January 10 season.

West Virginia Early Antlerless Deer Archery and Muzzleloader Seasons Open in September

The special antlerless archery and antlerless muzzleloader seasons will open in September on private land only in select counties throughout the state, according to the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources (DNR). The early archery season opens September 12, 2011, and closes September 17, 2011. The early muzzleloader season opens September 19, 2011 and closes September 24, 2011.  To participate in either of these seasons, hunters need to be aware of the following regulations.

South Dakota Elk, Bighorn and Deer Seasons Finalized

The South Dakota Game Fish and Parks Commission has finalized the 2011 Elk Hunting Seasons.

The Archery Elk Season will have 89 "any elk" and 37 "antlerless elk" licenses this year.

The Black Hills Firearm Elk Season will have 470 "any elk" and 395 "antlerless elk" licenses in 2011.

The Firearm Prairie Elk Season will have 49 "any elk" and 79 "antlerless elk" this year.

Vermont's 2011 White-tail Deer Seasons Confirmed

The Vermont Fish and Wildlife Department announces that dates for the 2011 white-tailed deer hunting seasons have been confirmed.

Dates for archery and muzzleloader seasons were intentionally omitted from the 2011 Vermont Hunting, Fishing & Trapping Laws and Guide because the Vermont Fish & Wildlife Board was considering adding an additional October muzzleloader and archery seasons at the time the guide was being printed. The Board voted not to implement any season changes.

Ohio's Muzzleloader Season Ends with Lower Harvest Rates

Hunters took 17,108 deer during Ohio's four-day muzzleloader season, January 8-11, with Tuscarawas County again leading the state with 914 deer checked. In 2010, a preliminary total of 24,078 deer was taken during muzzleloader season, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Wildlife.

Nevada DOW Hosting Introductory Muzzleloader Class - Jan 26th

The Nevada Department of Wildlife (NDOW) will host an introductory muzzleloading class Jan. 26 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Clark County Shooting Park Education Center. Muzzleloaders are any firearm that loads the bullet and propellent through the muzzle and can range from the historical rifles like those you see in movies about Daniel Boone and other American frontiersman to more modern "inline" muzzleloaders .

Iowa DNR Will Not Press Charges in Deer Shooting

No charges will be filed in the shooting of a white deer this week in northeast Iowa.

Investigation by Department of Natural Resources biologists and a Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) veterinarian showed that the animal, shot Jan. 9 by a muzzleloader hunter in Jakway Park Wildlife Area in Buchanan County, is a fallow deer, not a wild Iowa white-tailed deer.
