New Mexico Elk, Deer, Javelina Tags on Sale in August

Hunters who were unsuccessful in this year's annual drawing for big-game licenses will have another shot in August when the Department of Game and Fish puts almost 3,500 deer, elk and javelina licenses up for sale on the agency website.

Montana OTC Deer, Elk and Antelope Tags Available Aug 8th

Hunters can buy over the counter and surplus B licenses (antlerless) deer, elk and antelope beginning Aug. 8.

The availability of over the counter licenses is noted in the 2011 deer, elk and antelope regulations by a statement in green lettering under applicable hunting districts saying "Purchase beginning Aug. 8".

Idaho Controlled Hunt Tag Deadline August 1st

Big game hunters who names were drawn in controlled hunt drawings have to buy their tags by August 1.

Any tags not purchased by that date will be forfeit. After a second drawing, any leftover tags are sold over the counter.

California DFG Offering Apprentice Deer Hunt on the Chimineas Unit

The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) is offering a draw for an apprentice deer hunt on the Chimineas Unit of the Carrizo Plain Ecological Reserve. The two-day hunt, which is being offered in cooperation with the California Deer Association (CDA), will be held Sept. 17-18 on the 30,000-acre reserve in San Luis Obispo County.

Washington Big Game Raffle Deadline July 22nd

Hunters have until Friday, July 22, to enter the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife's (WDFW) special big-game hunt raffles for this fall.

Raffle hunts are available for black-tailed deer, mule deer, white-tailed deer, westside elk, eastside elk, California bighorn sheep, moose and mountain goat. Like last year, five multi-species raffle hunts will be available in which hunters can harvest multiple animals.

Oregon Youth Hunter Must Wear Orange Starting August 1st

New rules that require youth to wear hunter orange when hunting take effect Aug. 1, 2011.

As of that date, hunters age 17 and under are required to wear a hunter (fluorescent) orange exterior garment or hat when hunting game mammals or upland game birds (except turkey) with any firearm.

North Dakota Deer Lottery Results Available

North Dakota's deer gun lottery has been held and individual results are available at the state Game and Fish Department's Online Services/Licensing - Lottery Results web site.

New Mexico Seeking Info on Mule Deer Poaching

The Department of Game and Fish needs help finding the person or persons who illegally shot a mule deer doe the week of June 19 on private property off Bear Canyon Road on the northeast side of the Guadalupe Mountains in Chaves County.

A conservation officer discovered the deer carcass June 23 while on patrol. The deer's back straps, hind quarters and one shoulder had been removed and its ears had been cut off. An inspection determined the doe had been shot with a large-caliber firearm.

Lock in Deer Unit For 3 Years With Dedicated Hunter Program

You can lock in the deer hunting unit you want to hunt in Utah for the next three years by joining the state's Dedicated Hunter program.

On June 9, members of the Utah Wildlife Board approved some changes to the program. The changes are needed because, in 2012, hunters will no longer hunt in five large regions in Utah. Instead, they'll hunt in 30 smaller units.
