Comments Wanted on Mule Deer Permit Proposal
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will hold public hearings to take public comments on a proposed wildlife regulation change that would expand the Managed Lands Deer (MLD) permit program for white-tailed deer to include mule deer.
Antlerless Big Game Permits Set For Dicussion
Division of Wildlife Resources officials will propose antlerless deer, elk, moose and doe pronghorn permit numbers, for hunts this fall, at an April 21 public meeting in Salt Lake City that will be broadcast to five locations across the state. DWR biologists say very few big game animals were lost in Utah this past winter. They're concerned, however, about the production of fawns and calves, which has been reduced the last few years.
Record Low Deer Permits Recommended - Again
Wildlife biologists are recommending the Arizona Game and Fish Commission set record-low deer hunt-permit levels again this year. The Arizona Game and Fish Department is recommending the commission set the deer permit-tag level for the general deer seasons at 37,025, which is a 4,620-permit reduction from last year.
Reduced Nonresident Deer and Antelope Fees Proposed
A recent Game, Fish and Parks proposal would establish reduced fees for nonresident one-tag and two-tag antlerless deer and antelope licenses.
Southeast Leftover Deer Tags Available
Leftover southeast deer tags are available to nonresident hunters. For the first time, hunters were required to apply for the permits rather than buy them on a first-come, first-served basis this year. After the application period, 216 permits were left over.
2003 Big Game App Deadline Approaching
Hunters planning to hunt big game in Colorado this fall need to be aware of the application deadline of April 1 for limited deer, elk, pronghorn antelope, bear and moose licenses. This deadline applies to any hunter wanting to apply for a specific limited big game license or preference point. As usual, there will be over the counter elk and bear licenses available for many areas.
Antelope, Deer, and Elk Seasons Set March 14th
The Nebraska Game and Parks Commissioners will set dates and regulations for the 2003 antelope, deer and elk hunting seasons, amend fish and wildlife regulations, and select the winner of the 2004 Habitat Stamp Art Contest at a March 14 meeting in Lincoln.

2003 Hunting Seasons Take Shape
The Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Commission recently approved changes in the 2003 hunting regulations and agreed to final spring turkey season dates, spring turkey quotas, spring and fall black bear seasons and quotas. The Commission will make final decisions on all license and permit quotas for deer, elk and antelope at its August meeting.
Mule Deer Population Counts
A low flying helicopter buzzing around the sagebrush flats near King Hill and in the South Hills will be a common sight for the next few weeks as Fish and Game biologist work on mule deer population counts for the region.
