All Mountain Lion Hunting Closed In Montana Districts 405, 447 And 471

The hunting of all mountain lions in northcentral Montana hunting districts 405, 447 and 471, in portions of Cascade, Chouteau, Judith Basin, and Fergus counties, closed at one-half hour after sunset on Sunday, November 20, 2011. These hunting districts will re-open for the hunting of all mountain lions for the winter season beginning December 1, 2011.

The order halting the hunt came shortly after Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks officials received word that the pre-established harvest quota for the districts combined had been met.

Mountain Lion Shot Near Creighton, Nebraska

A 15-year-old deer hunter from Wayne killed a mountain lion near Creighton in northeast Nebraska on Nov. 12, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.

The boy, hunting a shelterbelt in Knox County, spotted the mountain lion 10 feet away before shooting and killing it. The mountain lion was a young male, which has been typical of mountain lions found in Nebraska outside of the Panhandle, according to Sam Wilson, furbearer and carnivore program manager with Game and Parks. The carcass was turned over to Game and Parks, as required by law.

Cougar Hits Northwoods in Time for Annual Gun Deer Hunt

A cougar ranging through west central and northern Wisconsin likely has tripped a trail camera for a third time, leading biologists to believe it is heading into the Northwoods just in time for the annual gun deer hunt.

State wildlife officials are asking hunters to report any sightings of the young, wild cougar. Based on the times and locations of the three photographs, it could be in the Flambeau State Forest or in heavily wooded Price County by now.

Ninth Cat Taken in Zone 1, One More Closes Early Season in North Dakota

North Dakota’s ninth mountain lion in zone 1 was taken Nov. 8. If one more is taken from zone 1 before Nov. 20, the early-season quota of 10 will be reached and mountain lion hunting in zone 1 will close immediately.

Montana Mountain Lion Hunting To Close In 335, 339, 343 & 388

The hunting of all mountain lions in southwestern Montana hunting districts 335, 339, 343, and 388 which includes portions of Lewis and Clark and Jefferson counties will close at one-half hour after sunset on Friday, November 11, 2011.

Mountain Lion Killed by Vehicle Near Minco, Oklahoma Provides Research Opportunity for Wildlife Department

A mountain lion was found dead Nov. 1 along HWY 81 north of Minco after having been hit by a vehicle, according to Erik Bartholomew, furbearer biologist for the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation.

Update On Montana's Hunting Seasons

Montana’s general big game hunting seasons are open through Sunday, Nov. 27. All hunting for black bear, moose, mountain goat, bighorn sheep and fall mountain lion also ends Nov. 27, while the general antelope hunting season will end Nov. 13.
