South Dakota’s muzzleloader only season will open Dec. 13 and continue through Jan. 31, 2004 with more licenses available.

"In a continuing effort to increase antlerless deer harvest in South Dakota, roughly two hundred more muzzleloader licenses will be available than last year," said Regional Wildlife Manager Andy Lindbloom of Pierre.

A total of 3,385 one-tag antlerless licenses and 1,185 two-tag antlerless whitetail licenses are available. Licenses are available to residents only in the first two drawings. Nonresidents are eligible for unsold licenses beginning with the third drawing.

Muzzleloader hunters should remember they are required to wear at least one exterior garment of fluorescent orange while hunting.

Shooting hours are one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.

The first deadline for muzzleloader deer is June 6 for paper applications. Hunters applying online have until midnight, Monday June 9, to submit electronic applications.
