New Brunswick Man Fined and Sentenced for Poaching

Ronald Gauvin, 57, of Allardville was fined $15,200 and sentenced to serve 42 days in jail on charges related to the Fish and Wildlife Act. He was sentenced on Thursday, Aug. 19, by Provincial Court Judge Ronald Leblanc.

Gauvin was charged with two counts of hunting moose out of season, two counts of selling moose meat, one count of possessing an illegal deer and one count of possessing an illegal bear.

Nova Scotia Accepting Apps for Non-Motorized Moose Hunt

Applications for the 2010 non-motorized moose hunt in the Pollets Cove-Aspy Fault Wilderness area of Cape Breton will be accepted through 11:59 p.m., Sunday, July 25.

Only 20 licences are available. Hunters who have already applied for the general moose draw can enter the lottery for the non-motorized hunt. However, successful applicants can only select one hunt.

Nova Scotia Wildlife Act Regulation Changes

The latest changes to regulations under the provincial wildlife act will provide greater opportunities to all Nova Scotia hunters, including youth and the disabled.

Wildlife regulations are reviewed by the Department of Natural Resources, based on requests and advice from wildlife division biologists.
