As of Wednesday, October 19, 2011, a total of 212 moose had been taken in the 2011 New Hampshire moose hunt (147 bulls and 65 cows). That means that 52% of hunters holding moose permits had succeeded by the midway point in the state’s moose hunt, which is in line with a typical year. The nine-day season runs through Sunday, October 23, 2011.

Among the successful hunters was a pair of twin brothers, Wendell Kennett and Wayne Kennett of Charlestown, N.H., who bagged a bull in WMU A2 on October 17, their 64th birthday!

The rainy and somewhat warm weather has continued statewide, putting a bit of a damper on the hunt, though it’s been far less blustery and challenging than it was on opening weekend, according to N.H. Fish and Game’s moose project leader, Kristine Rines.

Nearly 14,000 people entered the 2011 moose hunt lottery, held last spring, for a chance to win one of the 395 permits drawn for the New Hampshire moose hunt.

Fish and Game manages New Hampshire’s moose population in accordance with density goals defined in its 2006-2015 moose management plan. This plan seeks to meet regional moose population goals by balancing and incorporating social, economic, public safety and ecological factors, using the best available science.

Swamp Donkey was one of those 52% of hunters that succeeded in their moose hunt - congrats!

Congrats also goes out to the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department for properly managing the moose population there.  That is a great success rate and hopefully not too great that next year tags get reduced.

Hey that is pretty cool. I

Hey that is pretty cool. I think it was just last night that I read the opening weekend stats of 27% of hunter had sucesfully harvested their moose. so in a matter of a couple days that number has doubled. That is awesome. With just a few days left of the season it would be pretty darn hard to see 100% of the hunter get their moose. I'm sure there will be another article in a fews days with the final numbers. Good luck to the remaining hunter. Hopefully they can get their tags filled before the season closes.
