More Input Wanted on Zone 3 Deer Season Changes
Proposed changes to the Zone 3 deer hunting seasons got a lukewarm reception during four public meetings held in January throughout southeastern Minnesota, according to the Department of Natural Resources. The meetings drew nearly 800 people who submitted comments on the original proposals. An additional 400 written comments and e-mails were received.

Minnesota bear hunters took 1,852 bears during the 2002 bear season, which ran from Sept. 1 through Oct. 13.

DNR Collects About 3,500 Samples For CWD Testing
Deer hunters submitted about 3,500 samples for chronic wasting disease tests during the first weekend of Minnesota's firearms deer season, which began Saturday, Nov. 9, according to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources.
No New Positives Found in Latest CWD Tests
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources announced today that no positives were found in five additional chronic wasting disease test results from deer killed in the nine-square-mile Aitkin surveillance area.
Archers Harvest 324 Deer at Camp Ripley
Hunters enjoyed another successful hunt Oct. 26-27 at Camp Ripley Military Reservation near Little Falls. Archers harvested 136 deer during the weekend hunt, including 10 bucks weighing more than 200 pounds. There were 188 deer taken during the earlier hunt Oct. 17-18, for a total of 324 deer harvested in 2002.
University of Minnesota Offers Deer CWD Testing
More than 150 veterinarians at 98 clinics have agreed to collect brain stem samples for Chronic Wasting Disease testing from deer harvested during this fall's firearms season. (Check the Chronic wasting disease information page for a list of vet clinics where hunters can take deer for CWD testing.)
