2003 Deer Seasons Set
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources will authorize more hunters than ever to harvest antlerless deer this fall, but relatively few will need to apply for either-sex permits through the lottery-drawing process.
Bear Hunt Booklets Mailed, Surplus Licenses Available in August
Applicants who were successful in the drawing for 2003 bear licenses are being sent bear hunt booklets this week notifying them of their success and instructing them how to purchase a license, according to the Department of Natural Resources. The remaining licenses will first be made available to this year’s unsuccessful applicants beginning at noon on Monday, Aug. 4.
Youth Firearm Deer Hunt Proposed in Whitewater State Game Refuge
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is proposing a special youth-only firearms deer hunt in the Whitewater State Game Refuge during the state teachers' convention weekend, Oct. 16-19. The hunt would be limited to 50 young hunters selected by a lottery.
Moose Application Deadline is June 13th
The application deadline for the 2003 Minnesota moose hunt is Friday, June 13. Applications may be made from any of the 1800 statewide ELS-POS License Vendors, and from the DNR License Center at 500 Lafayette Road in St. Paul.
2003 Camp Ripley Youth Archery Hunt Apps Available
The Minnesota Deer Hunters Association is accepting applications for a youth-only archery deer hunt to be held on Oct. 11-12 at Camp Ripley near Little Falls. A maximum of 150 permits will be issued to eligible youth who are age 12-17 as of Oct. 8. Youth must have completed a hunter safety course and must have their application postmarked by Aug. 1.
Deer Hunters Association Announces Ethical Hunter Award Winners
The Minnesota Deer Hunters Association, in conjunction with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Turn In Poachers, has named the winners of the 10th Annual Ethical Deer Hunter Award. The two hunters were honored at the association’s State Habitat Banquet, held recently at the Runestone Community Center in Alexandria.
Zone 3 Deer Seasons Set
Changes to Minnesota’s Zone 3 firearm deer hunting season for the fall of 2003 were announced this week by the Department of Natural Resources. Zone 3 encompasses most of southeastern Minnesota and the southern and western Twin Cities metro area.
Consider Less Aggressive ATV Tires
In an effort to reduce the impact and lessen damage to sensitive soils from all-terrain vehicle use, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is asking ATV operators to consider using tires with less aggressive tread designs.
Bear Application Deadline is May 2nd
Applications for the 2003 Minnesota black bear hunting season are now being accepted by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources through Friday, May 2. This year’s season, which will run from Sept. 1 through Oct. 12, offers 20,110 licenses available in 11 permit areas.
Leftover Wild Turkey Licenses Available
Leftover 2003 Minnesota spring wild turkey licenses will go on sale beginning at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 17. Wild turkey hunting licenses that remain after the landowner and regular lottery drawings are being offered to unsuccessful applicants at Electronic Licensing System agents. All hunters successful in the lottery should have received their notification by now. A total of 3,088 permits remain from the 25,016 initially offered.
