Black Bear Permit Lottery Now Closed
Applications are no longer being accepted for this year’s Black Bear Hunting Permit Lottery, which closed Aug. 31. at 8 p.m. The 200 winning applicants’ lottery numbers will be posted after 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 2.
Black Bear Hunting Permit Lottery Ends August 31
There are less than two weeks left for interested hunters to apply for a chance to join in the second annual Maryland Black Bear Hunt. Two hundred permits will be issued, and applicants currently have a 1 in 7 chance of being selected to participate.
Bear Hunting Permits Offered Starting July 1
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Wildlife & Heritage Service announced today that applications for the 2005 black bear hunting season lottery will open July 1. The hunt will take place Oct. 24-29 and Dec. 5-10 in Garrett County and those areas west of Evitts Creek in Allegany County.
Chronic Wasting Disease Not Found In Deer Population
Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Wildlife and Heritage Service biologists announced today that there was no sign of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in white-tailed deer and sika deer harvested in the 2004-2005 muzzleloader and firearms deer hunting season.
DNR Proposes Changes to Deer Seasons
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is proposing a mid-cycle change in the deer hunting seasons and bag limits for Garrett and Allegany Counties (Deer Management Region A). The Department is accepting comments on these changes through April 19.
Spring Turkey Season Opens April 16
With the first days of spring upon us, the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds hunters that the start of the statewide spring turkey hunting season is quickly approaching. This year, the five-week spring turkey season kicks off on Monday, April 18 and will continue through Monday, May 23. In addition, a one-day Junior Turkey Hunt will be held on Saturday, April 16.
DNR Announces Quota for the 2005 Black Bear Hunting Season
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today announced the harvest quota for the 2005 black bear hunting season. After a careful review of the data from the 2004 bear hunting season, non-hunting bear mortalities and other population monitoring surveys, the DNR has set the quota at 40-55 bears for the 2005 season.
Deer Hunters Harvested 93,868 Deer During 2004-05 Season
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Wildlife and Heritage Service today announced that Maryland deer hunters harvested 93,868 deer this season, a 7.6 percent increase over last year. In addition, hunters bagged a record 59,229 antlerless deer (58,373 white-tailed deer, 856 sika deer).
DNR Introduces Two New Ways To Buy Hunting And Fishing Licenses
Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Secretary C. Ronald Franks today announced that for the first time in Maryland history, hunters and anglers can now purchase licenses online through DNR’s website, or over the phone at 1-800-918-2870. These new services complement the existing 320 retail vendors that currently and will continue to sell licenses.
NRP Arrest Man For Interfering with Hunters
Maryland Natural Resources Police (NRP) have arrested and charged a Mechanicsville man for interfering with hunters and other criminal charges in St. Mary’s County on New Years Day.
