DNR Announces Black Bear Population Estimate And Hunt Quota
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife and Heritage Service (WHS) today announced the results from the latest black bear population study, which was conducted in Garrett and Allegany counties during the summer of 2005.
DNR Receives $10,000 Education Grant From Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Wildlife and Heritage Service (WHS) was recently awarded a $10,000 educational grant from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF). The grant is one of the largest ever by the RMEF for a state that does not have a native population of elk and is the largest project to date funded by RMEF in Maryland.
Spring Turkey Season Opens With Youth Day On April 15
Maryland’s statewide spring turkey hunting season will begin on Saturday April 15 with the 1-day Junior Turkey Hunt day. The 5-week regular turkey season will open on Tuesday April 18 and continue through May 23.
Firearm White-Tailed Deer Season
Maryland’s Firearm Deer Season reopens on January 6 – 7, 2006 in Deer Management Region B. The firearm season is closed in Deer Management Region A (Allegany and Garrett counties). The sika deer firearm season is also closed. This Friday and Saturday deer season provides additional opportunities for landowners to manage deer numbers through deer hunting.

Junior Deer Hunt
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Wildlife and Heritage Service (WHS) announced today that Saturday, Nov. 12, marks the 11th annual Maryland Junior Deer Hunt. Hunters 16 years of age and younger who are accompanied by an unarmed licensed adult of at least 21 years of age can hunt white-tailed deer and sika deer.
2005 Black Bear Hunt Closed
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) proclaimed the 2005 Maryland Black Bear hunt closed effective immediately. DNR also announced the 2005 black bear hunt harvest totals, hours after the state’s second bear hunt since 1953 came to a close.
Early Muzzleloader Deer Season Opens October 20
