The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) State Park Service announced today the 2006-2007 dates for archery and firearms deer hunts at Wye Island Natural Resources Management Area (N.R.M.A.). As in the past, all hunts will be by permit only.

This year's dates for archery hunts are from September 15 through October 18, Oct. 23 through November 24, and Dec.11 through Dec. 15, 2006. Dates in 2007 are from January 1 through Jan. 4 and Jan. 8-31. Hunts are permitted Monday through Saturday only. All archery permits will be issued daily on a first-come first-served basis beginning Sept. 15. Permits will be limited to 25 archery deer hunters per day. Hunters must sign-in and out using the self-registration system at the Wye Island check-in station. THERE IS NO ARCHERY HUNTING DURING THE MUZZLELOADER and FIREARMS SEASON.

During the late archery season- Jan. 1-4 and Jan. 8-31- the lottery hunts for AP Canada goose will be held on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from sunrise to 1 p.m. Archery Hunters should use caution and avoid entering and exiting hunting areas near the goose hunting pits and blinds.

The Muzzleloading Deer Hunt by lottery permit only will be held October 19 - 21. Muzzleloading applications for the October hunt must be postmarked on or before Sept. 20, 2006 at 2 p.m. Permits will be selected the following week. The December Firearms hunt will be held December 4 - 9, 2006. Firearm applications for the December hunt must be postmarked on or before Oct. 27, 2006. Permits will be selected by a random drawing on Nov. 1, 2006 at 2 p.m.

For each hunt one application per hunter is allowed, with a maximum of three applications per group hunt. You must, however, file separate applications for the October and December deer hunts.

In addition this year, all successful applicants will be required to have a Managed Hunt Permit (MHP).
