Maine Moose Lottery - Sat. June 18th
The 2011 Maine Moose Permit Lottery Will take place Saturday, June 18, at Cabela's in Scarborough. The public and media are encouraged to attend.
Cabela's is planning a full day of activities starting at 10 a.m., including moose hunting tips, a pre-season scouting report and a barbeque contest. For kids, the Maine Bowhunters Association will have a youth archery range, Bryant Pond 4-H Camp will demonstrate primitive fire making and give tips on how to make moose calls, and ATV Maine will offer youth ATV riding and safety tips.
Opening ceremonies will begin at 3:45 p.m., with the presentation of the colors by the Maine Warden Service Color Guard. The drawing of names will commence at 4 p.m.
The names will be posted on MDIF&W's web site at approximately 8 p.m.
"This year will be one for the record books as more permits will be awarded than in years past," said Commissioner Woodcock. "All of the names – more than 3,700 of them – will be read at this year's lottery, and regardless of whether a hunter's name is called, the event itself is sure to please those in attendance. Of course, having your name read makes the day even better!"
Since 1999, the Maine Moose Permit Lottery Drawing has been held at different locations throughout the state, including Millinocket, Boothbay Harbor, Old Town, Bucksport, Scarborough, Presque Isle, Rumford, Phippsburg, Kittery, Fort Kent and Freeport.
