The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is pleased to announce that Cabela's has joined its growing list of MOSES licensing agents, and that all Wal-Mart locations statewide now are MOSES agents as well.

MOSES is the Department's online licensing system and is available at approximately 240 locations statewide and on the IF&W Web site, www.maine.gov/ifw.

By offering the computer-based licensing system, MOSES agents not only provide a better licensing service to our customers, they also help the Department save significant time and money that instead can be used to protect our valued outdoor resources, according to Commissioner Roland "Dan" Martin.

"Both Cabela's and Wal-Mart will sell a large number of licenses for us each year, so the fact that they have agreed to use the MOSES system to do so is very important to us," Martin said. "We look forward to a continued excellent working relationship with Cabela's and Wal-Mart."

MOSES is available at Cabela's when its doors open (May 15) in Scarborough.

"As we celebrate the Grand Opening of our newest retail store in Scarborough, Cabela's is proud to offer our customers access to MOSES," said Daniel Witcher, store manager for Cabela's Scarborough retail store. "The convenience of MOSES is just another great way for Cabela's to provide legendary service to our loyal customers."

In 2007, approximately 98,000 hunting and fishing licenses were sold online or roughly 20 percent of the annual license sales, according to Bill Swan, Director of Licensing. That was a 23 percent increase over the approximately 80,000 licenses purchased online in 2006. Over the years Wal-Mart has been a big seller of our licenses and will continue to be a major seller using MOSES.

"Collectively, these 22 Wal-Mart stores sell more than 52,000 licenses per year or 11 percent of our total license sales," Swan said. "Needless to say we are very excited about getting Wal-Mart onto MOSES."

As an added bonus, Cabela's is participating in the Department's annual MOSES prize drawing by offering a $2,000 store gift card as a grand prize.

Three grand prizes will be awarded, a $2,000 store gift card to Kittery Trading Post, L.L. Bean, and now Cabela's. A 2009 Combination Hunting and Fishing license will be awarded to 30 runner ups.

To be entered into the drawing, a customer must use MOSES either online from their computer or at one of the more than 240 MOSES agents statewide. Also, anyone who uses IF&W's web site to apply for a moose permit or an any-deer permit will be entered into the prize drawing. For rules, see 2008 MOSES Prize Giveaway.

This drawing is the Department's way of thanking customers for using its online services and contributing to its growing success since 2003.
