Louisiana Cites 3 Men for Deer Hunting Violations

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Enforcement Division agents cited three West Monroe residents on Jan. 17 for alleged deer hunting violations in Ouachita Parish.

Michael B. Larue, 20, John M. Copeland, 19, and Shelby C. Lazenby, 18, all from West Monroe, were cited after the vehicle being operated by Larue was stopped on Thomas Road by the West Monroe Police Department (WMPD) for a traffic violation. WMPD officers noticed fresh blood and deer hair in the back of the truck and a loaded .17 caliber rifle and 12-gauge shotgun in the truck.

3 Louisiana Men Plead Guilty to Baiting Deer in Iowa

Three Louisiana men pleaded guilty on Nov. 4, to illegally pursuing deer in southwest Iowa after a person with knowledge of the case made a call to the local conservation officer in late October.

Danial Vidrine, 51, of Baton Rouge, La., pleaded guilty in Mills County to hunting without a license and hunting deer over bait. Vidrine paid $849 in fines and forfeited his bow, several tree stands, trail cameras, deer decoys and other hunting items.

Louisiana DWF Seeking Clues on Several Black Bear Poachings

Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Enforcement Division agents are seeking leads for several illegal black bear killings that have taken place recently.

The killings have taken place from coastal bear habitat in St. Mary and Vermillion Parishes to Tensas Parish. The bears have either been shot or trapped in hog snares by poachers.

2 Louisiana Men Cited for Night Hunting After Accidental Shooting

A Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) Enforcement Division agent cited two Ouachita Parish men for alleged night hunting violations on Nov. 23.

James Allen Clark, 18, of West Monroe, and Tyler Blaine Jones, 17, of Calhoun, were each cited after they arrived at Glenwood Hospital Emergency room seeking treatment for a gunshot wound.

On the morning of Nov. 23 while allegedly attempting to illegally night hunt from Okaloosa Road in South Ouachita Parish, Jones was struck in the head by a ricocheted bullet from Clark’s .270-caliber rifle.

LWFC Requires New Permit for Deer Hunters Using Dogs in Kisatchie

The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission, in consultation with Kisatchie National Forest (KNF), is requiring a permit for those deer hunters on KNF during the "with or without dogs" portion of the hunting season, Dec. 18 to 24 and Dec. 26, 2010.

Louisiana DWF Discussing 2011 Turkey Season - Public Comment Sought

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries proposed the season dates and regulations revisions for the 2011 turkey hunting season at the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission's July 8 meeting.

The recommended statewide opening date is Saturday, March 19. The season in Area A would extend to April 17, Area B to April 10, and Area C to April 3. The daily bag limit would be one gobbler, and the season limit would be two gobblers.

Two Louisiana Soldiers Guilty of Poaching

On June 23, 2010, two U.S. Army soldiers pled guilty in U.S. Magistrate Court to illegal hunting activities on Peason Ridge Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in 2006 and 2007.

Louisiana DWF 2010 Alligator Hunts
In order to increase alligator harvest opportunities, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) will conduct alligator lottery hunts on 4 Coastal and Nongame Resources (CNR) Division Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs), 13 Wildlife Division WMAs and 20 public lakes for the 2010 alligator harvest season.
Louisiana to Amend Physically Challenged Hunter Program
At their April 1 meeting, the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission received a notice of intent from Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) staff that would amend the Physically Challenged Hunter Program.
