Night Hunters Sentenced
Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division agents cited Patrick Fink Jr., 22, of Hammond and Christopher Brown, 22, of Albany for hunting violations that occurred on Jan. 25 and 26, 2005 in the Wadesboro area of Tangipahoa Parish.
Hunting Seasons and Regulations Set for 2005
The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission set the resident game bird and animal hunting seasons and regulations for the 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons at their July 7 meeting. The seasons include quail, rabbit, squirrel and deer.
Nutria Incentive Program Ends
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries' (LDWF) 2004-2005 Coastwide Nutria Control Program season concluded March 31, 2005 with 311 participants harvesting 297,535 nutria.
Highway Turkey Hunters Caught
Two men were arrested for allegedly killing a wild turkey from a moving vehicle and public road, and for possession of an illegally taken turkey on Louisiana Highway 10 on March 31.
Arkansas Man Booked for Fraud in Big Buck Contest
On March 21, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division agents booked an Arkansas man into the Morehouse Parish jail for contest fraud. Daniel Wiggins, 34, was charged as a result of an investigation revealing his alleged entry of an illegally taken buck into the Simmons Sporting Goods big buck contest in Bastrop.
Deer & Turkey Tagging Proposal
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is seeking input from hunters across the state concerning a proposed deer and turkey tagging system. Public comment will be taken during a series of 10 public hearings scheduled to obtain public input on the proposed upcoming season dates, bag limits and wildlife management area regulations.
LDWF Accepts Tentative Hunting Season Rules
The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission voted Thursday to accept the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries' recommendations for the 2005-2006 hunting seasons and wildlife management area (WMA) regulations.
Turkey Hunting Regulation Pamphlets Available
The 2005 Louisiana Turkey Hunting Regulations pamphlet and the 2005 Louisiana Recreational Fishing booklet are now available from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and license vendors.
Unseasonable Weather Impacts Early Deer Season Successes
Weather conditions have had a major impact on hunter success during all of the managed hunts conducted by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to date, according to LDWF Wildlife Division Administrator David Moreland. The warmer than normal temperatures during the months of October and November have slowed deer movement during the first part of this year’s hunting season.
Nutria Incentive Program
The goal of the Coastwide Nutria Control Program is to reduce or eliminate damage to Louisiana’s wetlands caused by nutria by increasing the annual harvest up to 400,000 animals. In order to increase the harvest, registered participants will receive $4 for each nutria tail brought to official collection locations along Louisiana's coast.
