Louisiana WFC Adopted Changes to Hunting Regulations
The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission (LWFC) received and adopted three changes to its notice of intent for 2007-2008 hunting regulations at its regular monthly meeting April 5.
The first change is a clarification regarding ATV use during the spring squirrel season. The new language of the regulations reads "ATVs are prohibited from March 1 until August 31 EXCEPT ATV trails are open on areas with a spring squirrel season and EXCEPT certain trails may be open during this time period to provide access for fishing or other purposes and some ATV trails will be open all year long on certain WMAs."
The second change states "Coyote hunting is restricted to chase only when using dogs during still hunting segments of the firearm and archery only season for deer."
The final change is an extended gun season for farm-raised white-tailed deer. This season will be expanded to include either-sex hunting using bows, guns or muzzleloaders from October 31-January 31. According to agriculture regulations, deer harvested in pens are required to be tagged, which will help LDWF Enforcement Division agents distinguish between pen-harvested and wild white-tailed deer.
Public comment on these changes may be directed to Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Wildlife Division Administrator David Moreland at email@example.com or mailed to Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Rm. 448, P.O. Box 98000, Baton Rouge, La 70898-9000 before May 3. The LWFC will also hear public comments at its regular monthly meeting on May 3 at 9:30 a.m. at LDWF Headquarters, 2000 Quail Drive, Baton Rouge.
