Lifetime License Opportunities
Make a life-long commitment to wildlife by purchasing a lifetime license, encourages the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife Resources Division (WRD). A lifetime license covers all necessary state hunting and fishing licenses (except the federal duck stamp) that a hunter or angler would need for year-round hunting and fishing enjoyment, even if they move out of state. Now there are two new ways to take advantage of a lifetime license – the Senior Discount Lifetime License and the Non-resident Lifetime License (for youth under 16 years of age).
“The lifetime sportsman’s license is a great investment for both the avid outdoors enthusiast and also for the wildlife that benefits from the sale of this license,” says WRD Director Dan Forster. “The addition of these two new lifetime licenses allows even more opportunities for sportsmen and women to take advantage of this great deal.”
Following are some additional details on each lifetime license:
· Senior Discount Lifetime License: This license is ideal for someone at age 60 who is an avid hunter and angler, as it will give them five years of hunting and fishing for only $95. To compare, an annual sportsman’s license, which provides all the same privileges but must be annually purchased is $60. A potential savings of $205!
· Non-resident Lifetime License: This license only is available to grandchildren (age 15 or under) of current resident lifetime license holders (including Senior Discount Lifetime Licenses). The cost of this license is $1,000 and will be good for the life of the child, regardless of the child’s future residence.
· Lifetime License: This license is available for any Georgia resident who meets application requirements. Cost varies depending on age: $200 (under age 2), $350 (ages 2-15) and $500 (age 16 and over).
· Honorary Lifetime License: This FREE license is for hunters and anglers age 65 and older and is available at any license agent or WRD office, or they may purchase the colorful, plastic identification card for $10.
Lifetime license holders receive an attractive, plastic card with their name, date of birth and identification number embossed on one side and a photograph of a white-tailed deer and a largemouth bass on the other side. A temporary license will be issued for immediate use until the actual card arrives in the mail. Lifetime license holders who hunt deer still need to obtain the deer harvest record form each year and those who hunt migratory birds must obtain the migratory bird harvest information permit (HIP) each year. The deer harvest record form and HIP permit are available for FREE from any license agent.
Due to the strict residency requirements, lifetime licenses only are sold at WRD offices or by mail. Applications for a lifetime sportsman’s license are available at WRD offices and on the WRD website, www.georgiawildlife.com. Applicants must provide proof that they have been a Georgia resident for the preceding 12 months. Proof of residency for those under 16 includes a certified copy of the applicant’s birth certificate and documentation of the parents’ Georgia residence.
