Hunters who want the chance to take one additional antlerless deer in southeastern New Hampshire have until July 31 to apply for a permit from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. Interested hunters can apply online by clicking here, or pick up an application from license agents in the southern part of the state. Mailed applications must be postmarked no later than midnight July 31, or dropped off at Fish and Game headquarters at 2 Hazen Drive in Concord no later than 4 p.m. that day.

The permits, drawn by lottery, allow hunters to take one antlerless deer (in addition to deer that may be taken with a firearms or archery license) in Wildlife Management Unit M, the southeastern part of the state from Brookline to Exeter and Portsmouth. A total of 5,000 permits are being offered in an effort to stabilize the size of the deer herd in that part of the state.

Hunters can use this special permit on any day during the archery, muzzleloader and regular firearms season in Unit M. Applicants must have a valid 2003 New Hampshire hunting or archery license and pay a non-refundable $13 application fee. Only one permit application is allowed per person.

Winners will be selected in a computer-generated drawing on August 22. Permits will be sent by mail immediately following the drawing, and winners' names will be posted on this website. If any permits remain after the lottery, they will be sold over the counter at Fish and Game's Concord headquarters starting September 2 on a first-come, first-served basis.
