The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) will be conducting listening sessions on the management of the new Sundquist Wildlife Management Area (WMA). Sundquist WMA consists of 77,000 acres located in Anderson, Campbell, and Scott counties.

Sundquist WMA, formerly Cumberland Forest Public Hunting Area (owned by International Paper Company), was purchased with a combination of state, federal, and private funds. The property is also unique in that ownership of the property rights is split between three owners. The state owns surface rights, Renewable Resources, Inc. owns the timber rights, and Cumberland Timber, Inc. owns the mineral rights, including coal, gas, and oil.

The listening sessions have been set up in each of the three counties where the WMA is located. The sessions are set for:

  • Anderson County - April 29, 2003, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Norwood School in Oliver Springs.
  • Scott County - April 29, 2003, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the courthouse in Huntsville.
  • Campbell County - April 30, 2003, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the pavilion at Cove Lake State Park.

The public may also comment on management of the area by sending written comments to: TWRA, Sundquist WMA, 3030 Wildlife Way, Morristown, TN 37814, or by accessing the TWRA web page here: Sundquist WMA Information page.

All written comments should be received by May 15, 2003.
