Alligator hunters who had permits to hunt Sept. 1-8 and Sept. 8-15 didn’t get to participate because of the state of emergency caused by Hurricane Frances, but the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) had good news for them.

FWC executive director, Ken Haddad, signed an executive order authorizing Sept. 1-8 permit holders to hunt gators Oct. 8-15. Sept 8-15 permit holders can take gators Oct. 15-22. These permit holders will be receiving a postcard that will provide additional details relevant to this action. FWC officials said alligator trappers should be sure to be in possession of their original permit while hunting during these additional harvest periods since the FWC will not be sending replacement permits.

In addition, the FWC may authorize similar accommodations for Sept. 15-22 and Sept. 22 – Oct. 1 permit holders if a state of emergency exists over those harvest periods.
