Firearms Deer Season Opens December 1
The Kansas firearms deer season opens on Wednesday, Dec. 1, and runs through Sunday, Dec. 12. The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) is offering a number of resident deer permits that may be purchased over the counter.
Perhaps the most popular permit that may be purchased without going through a drawing is the Whitetail Either Sex permit ($31). This permit may be purchased over the counter at KDWP offices, most license vendors, or through the mail. Hunters who have already obtained any other antlered deer permit may not purchase this permit.
Whitetail Antlerless Only permits ($31) and Whitetail Antlerless Only Deer Game Tags ($11, resident; $21, nonresident) also may be purchased over the counter. Hunters may purchase one Whitetail Antlerless Only Deer permit, which is valid on public or private land in the unit specified on the permit.
Any hunter, resident or nonresident, may purchase as many as four deer game tags; however, only one game tag may be used in units 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 11, and 14. Deer game tags may not be used in units 1, 2, 17, and 18. The permits are valid for white-tailed antlerless deer only, and may be used during any season with equipment legal for the season in which the hunt occurs. Deer game tags are not valid on KDWP-managed lands but may be used on Walk-In Hunting Areas that allow deer hunting.
Copies of Kansas deer permit and tag applications may be downloaded at the department’s website or by phoning 620-672-5911.
