Firearms Antelope Season Proposed
The Game, Fish and Parks Commission proposal for the state’s firearms antelope season would allow fewer one-tag licenses and more two-tag licenses if finalized without changes in July.
The season would be open Oct. 4-12 with 4,835 resident licenses available, slightly down from 4,890 in 2002. An additional 8 percent would be available to nonresidents.
"South Dakota’s antelope population continues to increase, except in areas of marginal habitat in west central South Dakota," said Regional Game Management Specialist John Wrede of Rapid City. "There may be an adjustment of these numbers based upon aerial survey counts completed since the last Game, Fish and Parks Commission meeting."
Shooting hours would be one-half hour before sunrise to one-half hour after sunset.
