Utah Deer Hunt Only 3 Days Long in 5 Units

If you're going to hunt deer on any of the following units in Utah, remember that this fall's rifle hunt ends on Oct. 25, 2010.

That's right; the following units in the following regions are open for only three days of rifle deer hunting this year:

South Dakota Antelope Season Now Open

South Dakota antelope hunters and some West River deer hunters took to the field on opening day, Saturday, Oct. 2.

The 2010 Firearms Antelope hunting season runs through Oct. 17 in most units. Hunters with antlerless deer tags for the West River Deer season will be able to hunt in their respective units during the same period.

New Hampshire Expands Range of Fall Shotgun Turkey Season

New Hampshire's five-day fall shotgun turkey hunting season takes place Monday through Friday, October 11-15, 2010, in 12 Wildlife Management Units (WMUs) in the Connecticut River Valley and southern New Hampshire (WMUs D1, D2, G, H1, H2, I1, I2, J1, J2, K, L and M).

Missouri's Newly Renovated Jay Henges Shooting Range Reopens Oct 13th

Firearm enthusiasts now have a new, state-of-the-art facility in the St. Louis area where they can hone their marksmanship skills. After shutting down for extensive renovations in December of last year, the rifle/pistol range at the Missouri Department of Conservation's (MDC) Jay Henges Shooting Range will reopen on Wednesday, Oct. 13.

Montana Offers New Hunting Opportunities in 2010

Montana's deer, elk and antelope regulations—the hunter's bible—is newly formatted this year and includes some new hunting opportunities for deer, elk and antelope for the upcoming season.

"We made the changes in response to requests for simpler, easier to read hunting regulations," said Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks spokesman Ron Aasheim.

Maryland DNR Announces Deer Hunt Dates at Wye Island NRMA

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Maryland Park Service announced the 2010-2011 dates for archery and firearms deer hunts at Wye Island Natural Resources Management Area (NRMA).

This year's dates for archery hunts are now through October 20, October 25 through November 26, December 13-17, January 3-6, 2011, and January 10-31, 2011, Monday through Saturday only. No archery hunting will be allowed during the muzzleloader and firearms season.

Oregon's General Hunting Season Opens Oct. 2nd

The peak of Oregon's hunting season begins next month, and ODFW reminds hunters that playing it safe is the first step to a successful hunt.

"Hunting is a very safe sport and enjoyable experience as long as hunters take some basic safety precautions," said James Reed, ODFW statewide hunter education coordinator.

"All hunting and firearm incidents can be avoided if some basic hunter safety rules are followed," Reed added.

Arizona GFD Open House About Flagstaff Shooting Range

An open house about the planning and development of the Northern Arizona Shooting Range will be held on Thursday, Sept. 23 from 3-8 p.m. at the Arizona Game and Fish Department’s Flagstaff regional office on 3500 S. Lake Mary Road.

"This open house will give the public a first look at some conceptual designs of the range and a chance to make suggestions on the designs," said Jay Cook, chief of shooting ranges for Game and Fish. "We will have staff on hand to help with their questions and discuss the development timeframe for this future community shooting range."

Nebraska Turkey Season Opens Sept. 15th

Fall turkey season opens Sept. 15 across Nebraska, and hunters of all ages have the opportunity to pursue the abundant gobblers. Getting new hunters into the field could be even easier this year, however, as reduced-price permits are available for youth.

Fall turkey permits are $24 for residents, $91 for nonresidents and $6 for youth younger than 16 years (residents and nonresidents), including issuing fee. The reduced-price youth permits were a big success during the spring turkey season, when youth permit sales more than doubled from the previous spring.
