Hunter Education Fun Shoot October 12th
On Oct. 12 at 4 p.m., Marquette area hunter education instructors, sportsmen groups, and the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks are sponsoring a "fun shoot" at the Army National Guard Weapons Range. This event is open to all hunter education graduates. The purpose of this event is to have an entertaining day on the range in preparation for the upcoming fall hunting seasons.
Handgun Deer Hunting Regulations Announced
Natural Resources Director Joel Brunsvold today announced regulations governing sportsmen using handguns during this year’s firearm deer season. "Many hunters have asked for this additional deer hunting opportunity and we’re pleased to be able to provide it this fall," Brunsvold said. "This is one of a number of increased opportunities we are bringing to sportsmen."
DNR Shooting/Archery Range Development Grants Available
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources announced today that $240,000 in Legislative Commission on Minnesota Resources grant money is now available to nonprofit groups and organizations for the improvement of shooting and archery range facilities around the state.
Regulations To Allow Handgun Use Planned
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources will allow the use of handguns during the firearm deer hunting season in the state this fall, Director Joel Brunsvold said today. We’re excited about this expansion of outdoor recreation opportunity in Illinois,” Brunsvold said. “Regulations are being drafted allowing handgun use during the firearm season.”
New Rule Eliminates Firearm Possession Restrictions During Hunting Seasons
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has rescinded all administrative rules that restrict the possession of firearms during certain hunting seasons. However, hunters must follow existing rules that govern the type of weapon used to hunt big game, game birds or furbearers. As a result of the action, for example, bow hunters may choose to carry a firearm while deer or elk hunting.
New Target Range Grants Approved
To assist shooting ranges in building education classes and practice areas, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department Commission recently approved funding for four projects with the Target Range Program for a total of $165,000.
September 13th Rifle Sight In
With hunting seasons just around the corner, big game hunters around the region are asking themselves the same question: does my rifle shoot straight? That question can be positively answered on Saturday, September 13 at the annual Sight In event, to be held at Black's Creek Rifle Range, 2420 E. Kuna-Mora Road east of Boise.
2003 Firearms Antelope Season Set
Because aerial surveys completed during May and June indicated an approximate 24 percent increase in South Dakota’s antelope populations, an additional 720 licenses with 1,220 tags will be available for the 2003 firearms antelope season.
2003 Cornhusker Trap Shoot Breaks Attendance Record
A record number of high school and junior high school trapshooters enjoyed excellent weather and high scores at the 34th annual Cornhusker Trapshoot held May 2 and 3 at the Nebraska Trapshooting Association’s home grounds near Doniphan, according to Rocky Hoffmann, Cornhusker shoot director for the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
Bellemont Shooting Range Takes Major Step Forward
After almost eight years of study, the Bellemont Shooting range near Flagstaff took a major step forward last week with final approval of a land exchange package between the Coconino National Forest and the Arizona Game and Fish Commission.
