Fawn Mortality Results Available
Fawn mortality numbers in 10 study areas across southern Idaho are available on the Internet at the Mule Deer Initiative page of the Fish and Game website.
Results from units 21A, 32, 33, 36B, 54, 67, 69, 72 and 76, show an average mortality of 50 percent. The worst was unit 33 with an 87 percent mortality and the best survival was unit 76 with only 16 percent mortality.
Of 241 fawns in the study, 121 had died as of March 24. Of the studied fawns, 27 percent died of malnutrition, 11 percent died of coyote predation, and the rest died from other causes.
