North Dakota's 2011 Bighorn Sheep, Moose and Elk Harvests

Harvest statistics released by the North Dakota Game and Fish Department show overall hunter success during the 2011 season for bighorn sheep was 100 percent, 88 percent for moose and 50 percent for elk.

Four bighorn sheep units were open in 2011. Game and Fish issued one license in unit B1/B2, two licenses in unit B3, and two licenses in unit B4. One additional auction license holder was able to hunt any open area. All six hunters tagged adult rams.

Virginia Officials Confirm Elk Restoration to Begin Soon

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation has been officially notified that elk restoration efforts in Virginia will begin this spring.
 
Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries officials confirmed the news to RMEF, the project’s leading financial contributor with a pledge of $300,000. RMEF leaders say they will now step up local fundraising efforts to ensure the project, once started, continues to move forward and remains on schedule.
 

Montana FWP Corrects Reports Of "New" Permit For Elk Archers

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks officials said today that a widely reported “new elk tag” for archers in the eastern half of Montana is causing confusion among hunters.

Several reports following the FWP Commission meeting last week suggested that FWP would offer a new “900-15” elk archery permit that would be good for use in up to 21 limited entry hunting districts.

Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Partners Recognize Standout Conservation Pros

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and U.S. Forest Service employees in four states—Idaho, Montana, New Mexico and Wyoming—have earned recognition for standout work to enhance and conserve habitat for elk and other wildlife.

Each has received a special award from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and their respective agency for conservation efforts in partnership with RMEF.

Poachers Get Stiff Sentences in Custer County, Idaho

Four men were jailed and fined thousands of dollars Monday, February 6, in Custer County after pleading guilty to charges stemming from an investigation into illegal hunting activity in the Yankee Fork drainage.

A fifth man was sentenced in January. Two others were warned.

If you haven’t yet submitted your application for the draw for Arizona’s 2012 elk and pronghorn antelope hunts, the deadline is almost here. Applications must be received by the department by Tuesday, Feb. 14, 7 p.m. (MST).

New Youth Elk Hunt Tag Approved at February Tennessee WRC Meeting

The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Commission approved the 2012 special elk hunting season and the addition of a permit for one state resident youth to participate in the elk hunt among its business at its February meeting that concluded Friday.

Montana's New, Streamlined Elk and Deer Permit Application Packet Available Now - New Deadline is March 15

Along with the new March 15 deadline to apply for 2012 deer and elk hunting permits, the new streamlined eight-page application packet—that contains all the information residents need to apply— is now available at all license providers, Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks offices and online at fwp.mt.gov.

March 15 is New Deadline for Montana's 2012 Bull Elk, Buck Deer Permits

Montana hunters have a new, earlier deadline in 2012 to apply for bull elk and buck mule deer permits in some hunting districts.

In districts where a special permit is required to harvest a bull elk or buck deer, the new application deadline is March 15. Drawing results will be announced by the end of April.
