Nebraska Leftover Tags on Sale July 11

Remaining big game hunting permits may be purchased beginning July 11 at 1 p.m. Central Daylight Time, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.

Residents, nonresidents and eligible landowners may purchase deer and pronghorn antelope permits, and residents and eligible landowners may purchase elk permits.

Idaho Fish and Game Commission Meeting July 27/28

The Idaho Fish and Game Commission will consider wolf hunting and trapping seasons during the July 27 and 28 meeting in Salmon.

A public hearing will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at the Idaho Fish and Game regional office in Salmon.

Ontario Successfully Restores Elk to Bancroft Region

Ontario and its partners have restored the elk population to the province.

The once endangered elk has made a come back and the elk population continues to grow at a healthy rate in the Bancroft region since being reintroduced ten years ago.

The Bancroft elk population is even healthy enough to support the first elk hunt in more than a century this upcoming September. The hunt will help manage the population in this area, and will be carefully harmonized to continue to ensure a long-term sustainable elk population.

Hunters that applied for a 2011 fall controlled hunt can find out if they drew the tag online at ODFW's My Hunter Information page.

Nevada Leftover Big Game Tags Available
As many hunters already know, the Nevada Department of Wildlife has posted Nevada's big game tag draw results on their website. Official results and tags were mailed to addresses on record by June 13.
Missouri Elk Released From Holding Pen

Missouri's 34 restored elk, plus five new calves, were released June 1 from their three-acre holding site at the Missouri Department of Conservation’s (MDC) Peck Ranch Conservation Area. The release followed final approval of stringent health-testing protocols by the Missouri Department of Agriculture.

The Peck Ranch Refuge Area will remain temporarily closed to the public to allow the adult elk and new calves time to acclimate to the area with a minimum of human disturbance.

MDC staff believe that additional cows remain pregnant with calving expected anytime.

Arizona Seeking Info on Bull Elk Poaching

The Arizona Game and Fish Department's Operation Game Thief (OGT) is offering a reward of up to $1,500 for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the poaching of a bull elk north of Paulden.

The elk, believed to have been killed elsewhere and dumped, was found on State Land approximately ½ mile northeast of the Pilots Rest Airstrip on Feather Mountain Road. The elk is believed to have been killed between June 4th and 5th.

Vancouver Man Pleads Guilty to Elk Poaching

A Vancouver man faces combined fines of $5,000 after pleading guilty to two counts under the Wildlife Act after an appearance in Duncan Provincial Court.

Sergei Sharov pleaded guilty to one count of hunting during a closed season and one count of unlawful possession of wildlife. He was fined $5,000, of which $4,500 will go to the Habitat Conservation Trust Fund. Sharov also received a five-year recognizance, including a ban from hunting and being in contact with other hunters. In addition to the penalties imposed, the seized firearm was forfeited to the Crown.
