Pennsylvania Elk Applications Are Due Aug. 26th

Hunters looking to participate in this year’s Pennsylvania elk season have until Aug. 26 to submit an application through the Pennsylvania Game Commission's Pennsylvania Automated License System (PALS).

Oregon Deer and Elk Hunts on C2 Ranch Available

ODFW's Access and Habitat Program and the C2 Ranch are offering 37 hunters the chance to hunt deer or elk on the ranch’s 9,500-acre property near Medford this fall.

New Mexico Elk, Deer, Javelina Tags on Sale in August

Hunters who were unsuccessful in this year's annual drawing for big-game licenses will have another shot in August when the Department of Game and Fish puts almost 3,500 deer, elk and javelina licenses up for sale on the agency website.

Montana OTC Deer, Elk and Antelope Tags Available Aug 8th

Hunters can buy over the counter and surplus B licenses (antlerless) deer, elk and antelope beginning Aug. 8.

The availability of over the counter licenses is noted in the 2011 deer, elk and antelope regulations by a statement in green lettering under applicable hunting districts saying "Purchase beginning Aug. 8".

Idaho Controlled Hunt Tag Deadline August 1st

Big game hunters who names were drawn in controlled hunt drawings have to buy their tags by August 1.

Any tags not purchased by that date will be forfeit. After a second drawing, any leftover tags are sold over the counter.

Let the planning begin. The drawing results for Arizona's 2011 fall big game hunting permits are now available at the Arizona Game and Fish Department's website. Draw results are also available by telephone at (602) 942-3000 by selecting option two.
Oregon Man Receives Sentence for Federal Wildlife Violation in Wyoming

A concerned citizen's tip about a trophy bull elk being illegally taken in October 2005 near Ten Sleep has led to an Oregon man being convicted for felony wildlife violations July 12 in U.S. District Court in Casper.

After James S. Robinson of West Lynn violated Wyoming statute by killing the bull elk Oct. 21, 2005 with an improper license - he only had a cow elk license for the area - the case became a federal Lacey Act violation when the illegally taken meat and mounted head and antlers were transported across state lines.

Washington Big Game Raffle Deadline July 22nd

Hunters have until Friday, July 22, to enter the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife's (WDFW) special big-game hunt raffles for this fall.

Raffle hunts are available for black-tailed deer, mule deer, white-tailed deer, westside elk, eastside elk, California bighorn sheep, moose and mountain goat. Like last year, five multi-species raffle hunts will be available in which hunters can harvest multiple animals.

Tennessee's Last Elk Permit Auctioned on E-Bay

The final permit for participation in Tennessee's third managed elk hunt will go to the successful bidder in an eBay auction from July 14-23. Proceeds from the auction benefit the state's elk restoration program.

Oregon Youth Hunter Must Wear Orange Starting August 1st

New rules that require youth to wear hunter orange when hunting take effect Aug. 1, 2011.

As of that date, hunters age 17 and under are required to wear a hunter (fluorescent) orange exterior garment or hat when hunting game mammals or upland game birds (except turkey) with any firearm.
