Effective Jan. 1, 2004, the Department of Fish and Game's (DFG) License and Revenue Branch (LRB) office in Sacramento will discontinue selling sport fishing and hunting licenses and associated privileges that can be purchased from DFG's license agents. This change in service is required due to budget and staff reductions.

In preparation for this change, the LRB office will not sell 2004 sport fishing licenses or associated privileges through the end of 2003.

"The LRB office will continue providing support to our license agents to ensure licenses are readily available to the public," said LRB Branch Chief Antoinette Lobo. "We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers."

The LRB office, located at 3211 S St., in Sacramento, will be limited to issuing licenses and permits that are available exclusively from Department offices. The following items will be sold only by mail: commercial fishing, aquaculture, commercial hunt clubs, falconry, fallow deer farming, fur agents and dealers, game breeders, guides, game bird clubs, migratory game bird shoot clubs, mobility impaired disabled persons motor vehicles, native reptile and amphibian captive propagation, restricted species, scientific collecting, trapping, suction dredge, free and reduced-fee sport fishing, and disabled veteran's hunting licenses. Customers should allow a minimum of 15 business days for processing applications received by mail at this location.

Additionally, the LRB office will continue to issue annual hunting licenses and associated privileges by mail to non-residents and military personnel on active duty to provide the opportunity for them to participate in the annual big game drawings.

The Department's 10 license sales offices throughout the state are continuing to sell sport fishing and hunting license privileges. However, some offices have limited public hours and may close intermittently due to staff shortages. Customers should call in advance of visiting a Fish and Game license sales office.

The Sacramento LRB office remains open to the public Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon, and from 1 to 4 p.m., except on legal holidays. Walk-in services at the Sacramento location will be limited to information and distribution of no-cost applications, publications, forms, and deer and bear tags (after an application is purchased from an authorized license agent). LRB will continue to validate bear tags. Customers should check DFG's Website for current public hours at http://www.dfg.ca.gov/licensing/officelocation.html.

Customers seeking to purchase sport fishing or hunting licenses and associated privileges should visit their local license agent. A list of authorized Fish and Game license agents is available on the DFG's Website at http://www.dfg.ca.gov/lrbweb/jsp/.
