Tennessee's 2005 deer archery season will open across the state on Saturday, September 24th, according to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).

The archery season dates in Unit A and Unit L (Middle and West Tenn.) this year will be September 24 - October 28, October 31-November 4, November 12-18 and December 12 - December 16. The bag limit for Unit A is four antlerless deer and two antlered for the season: Unit L is three antlerless deer per day and no more than 2 antlered for the season.

Unit B (East Tenn.) will be September 24 - October 28, October 31 - November 4 and November 12-18. The bag limit for Unit B is two deer, either-sex.

This year, all hunters may use crossbows during all deer hunting seasons. Archers no longer need a permit signed by a doctor to hunt with a crossbow during the archery-only season.

The TWRA urges all archery hunters to pick up a 2005 Tennessee Hunting and Trapping Guide to review and become familiar with the changes for the upcoming deer season.

Hunters are reminded that they must possess the appropriate licenses and permits. Hunters born on or after January 1, 1969 must also have, in their possession, proof they have successfully completed a hunter education course. If the hunter education card has been lost, first call the TWRA Regional Office and then go to any license agent for a card replacement.
