Comments Sought on Guide/Outfitter Rules
The Department of Game and Fish will accept public comments until April 18 on a proposed amendment to the Guide and Outfitter Rule 19.30.8 NMAC.
The amendment will make registration requirements for guides consistent with Section 17-2A-3-C NMSA 1978 and apply similar consideration for becoming a registered guide or outfitter. Under the section, anyone who has had his guide or outfitter registration revoked or suspended in another state cannot be registered in New Mexico. The new rule would bring the regulation in line with the statute.
"The State Game Commission regulation on the history of violation applies to outfitters but not guides," said Dan Brooks, Law Enforcement chief. "This will bring more consistency to the requirements for both guides and outfitters."
The new rule will establish testing restrictions to prevent applicants from taking the guide and outfitter test more than once in the same day, said Brooks. It also will clarify requirements for outfitter liability insurance and remove inconsistencies between the rule changes approved by previous State Game Commission minutes and the rule on file with State Records and Archives.
"We are trying to post some professional standards and keep them consistent," said Brooks.
Amendment materials are posted on the new spotlight feature of the Department's web site at www.gmfsh.state.nm.us.
The public can mail comments to: Brian Gleadle, New Mexico Department of Game and Fish, P.O. Box 25112, Santa Fe, NM 87504 or E-mail: email@example.com.
