Colorado Parks and Wildlife is offering a $500 reward for information that might help solve a poaching crime in Custer County.

A dead bear was found Aug. 29 near Silver Circle Road off Oak Creek Grade.

"It appears the bear was shot indiscriminately," said District Wildlife Manager Justin Krall. "It looks like it was shot sometime the week of Aug. 21."

Wildlife officers ask that anyone with information call the poaching tip line -- Operation Game Thief. Callers may remain anonymous and may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest or a citation.

"Poaching is a crime," said Krall. "But if the person or persons who did this come forward and turn themselves in, their cooperation will be taken into consideration."

Anyone who saw any suspicious activity is asked to contact Krall at (719) 371-2240, or Operation Game Thief at 1-877-265-6648.  Verizon cell phone users can dial #OGT, or contact Operation Game Thief via e-mail at game.thief@state.co.us.
