California DFG San Diego Office Has Moved

The California Department of Fish and Game's (DFG) San Diego office has moved to a new location, effective June 10.

The new office address will be 3883 Ruffin Road, San Diego, CA 92123. The new facility has a larger parking lot and a customer service area with three license counters to better serve the hunting and fishing community. The new office will also improve efficiency of DFG staff and programs by consolidating resources.

The new office is approximately two miles from the current location on Viewridge Avenue. The phone numbers will not change.

California Hunting Guide Loses License

A Department of Fish and Game (DFG) investigation led the Humboldt County District Attorney's office to file 17 charges against a bear hunter and licensed guide. In an April 12 plea agreement, Edgar Ray Roden, 56, of McKinleyville, pleaded guilty to four Fish and Game Code violations.

California DFG Offers Wild Pig Hunt on Bobcat Ranch

The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) will conduct a permit-only wild pig hunt on Bobcat Ranch in May. This hunting opportunity - under the Shared Habitat Alliance for Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Program - will give 56 wild pig hunters access to the private property during two archery periods, two apprentice periods and four general method periods.

California North Central Region Turkey Apps Available

The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) is now accepting applications for spring wild turkey hunts in the North Central Region, and deadlines are approaching. These hunts are being offered at Spenceville, Oroville, Daugherty Hill and Gray Lodge wildlife areas. A special hunt opportunity is also available at the Cosumnes River Preserve, in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management.

California Turkey Season Opens March 26th

California's 2011 spring turkey season will open statewide on March 26. The general season will extend through May 1. In addition, archers may hunt turkeys through May 15, and holders of junior hunting licenses are permitted to hunt with shotguns through May 15.

California Special Spring Turkey Hunts

The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) is accepting applications for spring wild turkey hunts, including several for youth hunters and mobility impaired hunters. Three such weekends of hunting are being offered by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) at Lake Mendocino, in cooperation with DFG’s Northern Region and Game Bird Heritage Program. Several hunting opportunities are designed for a hunter to share his or her hunting experience with a guest.

California DFG Releases 2 Bear Cubs

The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) has successfully returned two California black bear yearlings to the remote wilderness near Truckee. Both female cubs were orphaned last summer.

California SHARE Program Hunts a Success

An unusual partnership between the Department of Fish and Game (DFG) and private landowners has created new pig hunting opportunities in Yolo County. Through the Shared Habitat Alliance for Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Program, the first state-sponsored pig hunt on private lands was held in December.

California Joice Island Pig Hunt Applications Due Feb. 10th

The Department of Fish and Game (DFG) will hold a permit-only hunt to control a small population of wild pigs on Joice Island Unit in Solano County. Joice Island, which is part of the Grizzly Island Wildlife Area, is a 2,150-acre wetland area consisting of thick cattails, tules, brush and standing water.

The first weekend of this hunting opportunity has been reserved for apprentice hunters. Two-day pig hunt permits will be issued by drawing only for the following weekends:
